Get to know me a little better:

What was your path to becoming a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist?

My path to becoming an LMFT began with a desire to help my community. Coming from a traditional Latino home where I witnessed intergenerational trauma, I became more aware of the struggles behind emotion dysregulation, mood disorders, and socioeconomic struggles. I developed a deep interest in understanding human behavior and relationships. After taking a few psychology courses, I became fascinated by the subject. It was when I enrolled in a marriage and family therapy course that I discovered my passion. From there, I pursued the necessary education and training to become a licensed marriage and family therapist, driven by my commitment to supporting individuals and families in need within my community.

When working with me, you can expect a modern approach, prioritizing your comfort and safety. During our initial sessions, we'll delve into your past, discuss therapy goals, establish recurring appointments, and tailor a treatment plan to suit your needs. My primary therapeutic lens is cognitive behavioral, focusing on understanding your thoughts and feelings and addressing any unhealthy patterns; additionally, I integrate modalities such as somatic therapy, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), mindfulness, and parts and memory work to provide comprehensive support throughout your therapeutic journey.

How do your own core values shape your approach to care?

What do you do to continue learning and building competencies as a provider?

Continuing education and building competencies as a provider are crucial aspects of my professional development. To ensure ongoing competence, I diligently complete continuing education units (CEUs) as required to maintain my license. When selecting courses and training, I prioritize those that align with the needs of both myself and my clients. Thus far, I have completed various courses, including TF-CBT, DBT, somatic/mindfulness, and parts and memory modalities. Currently, I am actively seeking additional training in EMDR and somatic breathwork to further enhance my skills and provide the highest quality care to my clients. Collaboration with other providers in my community is also an integral part of my professional development. By engaging in collaborative efforts, I have the opportunity to gain insights and perspectives from diverse practitioners. This exchange of knowledge and skills not only enriches my practice but also enhances the quality of care I provide to my clients.

What should someone know about working with you?

My upbringing in a Catholic Hispanic home as the middle child of three sisters deeply influences my approach to care. Watching my parents work tirelessly to provide a loving home taught me the importance of empathy and understanding. I firmly believe that everyone's struggles, whether large or small, are valid, and no one should navigate life's challenges alone. My core values emphasize breaking the cycle of suppressing emotions and problems, instead advocating for embracing our struggles and learning to navigate them effectively. I strive to create a therapeutic environment where individuals feel empowered to confront their storms and develop the skills to find inner calmness and resilience.

Who are you?

I am a Hispanic middle daughter of a single parent who deeply values family and personal growth. I find joy in immersing myself in books, embracing adventures in nature, and cherishing the companionship of my beloved fur baby and partner. When I'm not exploring the world around me, I prioritize self-care and lead by example, dedicating time to nurturing my well-being and living authentically. I take pleasure in the simple comforts of home, whether it's indulging in creative projects like building Legos, getting lost in the pages of a captivating story, enjoying the latest films and TV shows, or whipping up delicious treats in the kitchen through baking.
